Rug Care Guide: How to Clean & Maintain Your Rug
Machine-made rugs are wonderfully low-maintenance. Here’s how to keep yours looking new for years.
One of the biggest advantages of a machine-made rug is how easy it is to care for. Made from premium heat-set fibers, our Turkish and Persian-design rugs resist stains, shed very little, and clean up quickly. Follow these simple steps to keep yours beautiful.
Everyday Care
- Vacuum weekly β use a vacuum without an aggressive beater bar (or set it to a higher pile setting) to lift dust and grit. Avoid vacuuming the fringe.
- Rotate every few months β turning the rug 180Β° evens out wear and sun exposure so it ages uniformly.
- Use a rug pad β a good pad prevents slipping, adds cushioning, protects your floor, and extends the life of the rug.
Handling Spills & Stains
- Act fast. Blot the spill immediately with a clean, dry cloth β don’t rub, which spreads the stain.
- Mix a mild solution. A few drops of dish soap in lukewarm water works for most spills.
- Blot, don’t scrub. Work from the outside of the stain inward.
- Rinse & dry. Blot with clean water, then press with a dry towel and let it air-dry fully.
Because our fibers are stain-resistant, most everyday spills (coffee, juice, mud) lift out easily when treated promptly.
Deeper Cleaning
A few times a year, you can deep-clean a machine-made rug by gently shampooing with a mild carpet cleaner and rinsing thoroughly, or by taking it outside for a rinse with a hose on a sunny day. Always let it dry completely (both sides) before placing it back down to prevent mildew.
Do’s & Don’ts
- Do blot spills immediately and use a rug pad.
- Do rotate the rug to even out wear.
- Don’t use harsh bleach or strong solvents.
- Don’t scrub aggressively β it can fuzz the pile.
- Don’t leave a damp rug rolled up.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are these rugs really stain-resistant?
Yes. Heat-set synthetic fibers don’t absorb liquids the way natural fibers do, so spills sit on the surface and blot away easily when treated quickly.
Can I steam clean my rug?
Light steam cleaning is generally fine for machine-made rugs. Avoid soaking the backing and make sure the rug dries fully afterward.
Will sunlight fade my rug?
Our fibers are fade-resistant, but rotating the rug occasionally keeps any sun exposure even.
